"ROMANCE GOD'S WAY"
Hey Heather!
You're always talking about courtship; what is the difference between
dating and courtship for you? -A.L.
Heather says- Let me answer this question in the form of a story.
Imagine you are sitting in front of the TV, watching a version of
"This is Your Life" talk show. The host is standing next to a large
piece of white paper with a heart outlined in black marking pen on
it. The heart is covered with unevenly cut pieces of red construction
paper. Every time the host mentions that a girlfriend has left, he
takes a piece of the heart off the display. Oh, shh...shh... The show
is starting:
"Welcome,
guys and gals, to this week's episode of "Break your Heart"! Today,
we are featuring Joe Smith's heart. Like any typical teenage guy,
Joe loves life and girls. At fifteen, he met Julie, a cheerleader
for the school's basketball team. When they met, everything just kind
of "clicked" and soon they were spending most of their time together
at school and talking into the wee hours of the night on the phone.
But six months later, Joe found someone better and off went Julie
taking a piece of his heart with her. At seventeen, Joe found Michelle.
She was everything he ever wanted in a girl. She was cute, popular
and even had her own car. They had a lot in common and although they
were too young, they planned on getting married "sometime" in the
next few years. Well, another handsome, financially stable guy came
along and for Michelle it was "love at first
sight". Bye, bye, Michelle, and bye, bye to another piece of Joe's
heart.
At nineteen, Joe left for college and on campus met his "one and only".
Kim was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen; she was absolutely
"drop-dead gorgeous". Although their interests were very different,
they found themselves falling in love. Joe promised he would love
her forever. During their cozy relationship, they talked about meeting
each other's families, but never quite got around to it. Meanwhile,
his college buddies convinced him to spend summer vacation down south.
Of course, that meant he had to use the money for Kim's
engagement ring for his trip. The ideas of marriage, Kim and another
piece of his heart flew right out the window.
(Hi, it's me, the
editor. I won't interrupt the show for long. Just had to take a second
to let you know what the host is doing on your 'snowy' screen. He
has now taken off quite a few of the heart pieces and there is only
one very small piece left on the display. Okay, I know you are really
anxious to find out what happens to poor Joe, so I'll let you get
back to the show.)
Between the ages of twenty and twenty-four, Joe gave away a few more
pieces of his heart. This one piece is how much of his heart Joe has
given to the woman he has promised to love 'til death do they part.
And these are the pieces of his heart given to women he probably will
never see again. Could Joe have done something differently? Stay tuned
for next week's episode of "Is there an alternative to the dating
game?"
Alright, that's my definition of dating; I've decided to rouse your
curiosity by waiting until the next issue of "Breath of Fresh Air"
to give you the talk show version about the joys of courtship. :)
Don't forget to tune in. Oh, and in the meantime, please don't go
breaking your heart.
Stay strong for Jesus and Mary!
Heather :)
